Challenge: 30 Days to an Organized Home--Day 6

Challenge: 30 Days to an Organized Home--Day 6

Good morning!  I hope everyone is doing well today and enjoying this challenge!

Assignment #6

Pantry/Food Cabinets

Today we're going to tackle our food storage areas.  Whether you have a dedicated pantry or a few cabinets, cleaning & organizing them can do a world of good.  Knowing what you have in your pantry can save you time & money.  If you have 3 open boxes of the same cereal buried in your cabinets, they are going stale and will likely be thrown away.

For this challenge, start with your pantry or one food cabinet.  Empty it completely.  Throw out stale or expired food.  Clean the cabinet well.  When putting your food back into the cabinet, take a moment to consider what your family uses most often or what you cook with regularly.  Make sure you leave these items as visible as possible.  Repeat the same process for each cabinet or until your pantry is finished.  You can choose to transfer boxed items to cheap baskets or containers.  The Dollar Tree has a nice selection and are only $1 each.

Note: Skip your spice cabinet or drawer.  This will an assignment during the challenge.

Frugal Tip: Pantry Pests & ants can invade your pantry and cause major issues and a lot of wasted food.  Do not use pesticides around food!  To help deter pests, spray straight vinegar around your food storage areas.  Allow the vinegar to dry completely.  Then place several bay leaves on each shelf.  Be sure to check products such as flour, oatmeal & rice when you bring them home for Pantry Pests.  Freezing these items for 24 hours will kill off any larva that may be present.

Check back at 9pm for my update, pictures & linky!

Live Frugal. Live Happy.
